FINAL Structure Fire; 07:42PM; 306 S Union Pl; internal:/; #Westlake; Address corrected from 306 S Union Av to 306 S Union PLACE, a long abandoned + heavily secured 1 story hillside OFFICE building, with sublevel sunroom; LAFD ambulance crew handling nearby unrelated medical call was advised of possible fire; One Firefighter/Paramedic remained with that patient, as the other summoned assistance while performing a circle check of burning premises. He discovered a man and woman (unauthorized occupants) trapped by very intense fire at a window behind security bars, and ran 150 yards back to ambulance, grabbed his duty axe from the ambulance, and returned to the window in a Herculean and ultimately successful effort to save their lives. The woman was treated for a hand laceration before declining further care, while the uninjured man quickly departed the scene; The fire's cause remains under active investigation; Brian Humphrey
