Update Natural Gas Leak 01/04/2019 INC#1254

Update Natural Gas Leak; INC#1254; 07:35PM; 712 S Westlake Av; internal:/; Westlake; LAFD hazmat experts have localized an increase in combustible (natural?) gas in a subterranean utility vault across the street from 712 S Westlake Ave, which also exhibits damage (a small crack) from a possible minor 'explosion' that was widely heard in the area before the first of several 9-1-1 calls. No fire or smoke at that (unk operator) utility vault, which will now be the prime focus of a joint LAFD/LADWP/SoCalGas cause investigation; a three-story 30-unit 17,145 square-foot apartment building (built 1930) at 711 S Westlake Ave is now the focus of a formal evacuation (now totaling 2 buildings, unk total occupants), as it is closest to the utility vault in question; Westlake Ave remains closed to all vehicle and pedestrian traffic between 7th St and 8th St; LAPD and LADOT now assisting with crowd and traffic control; FS 11; Batt 11; Central Bureau; Council District 1; Radio Channels: 7; 12 13; - Brian Humphrey
