However, they faced a massive logistical challenge when the need for personal protective equipment skyrocketed due to the pandemic. UPDATE: Tuesday, March 24, 2020 Last Friday, the LAFD began offering COVID-19 tests to our firefighters who had symptoms consistent with the Coronavirus. As of today, 79 individuals have been tested. Two firefighters have received positive test results and are both home at this time recovering from the illness.

Out of an abundance of caution to mitigate the spread of COVID-19 in large public settings, the ֱ (LAFD) has postponed several events to ensure the health and safety of our firefighters, civilian employees and the communities that we serve. These postponements are in line with directions from Mayor Garcetti and Governor Newsom. The LAFD has postponed the Girls Camp scheduled for this weekend. Effective immediately, all youth programs are also postponed indefinitely. Additionally, public meetings and events scheduled at the community rooms at nine LAFD fire stations have been postponed and the community rooms closed until further notice. “The LAFD is taking necessary steps to protect our members and the public as we work to manage the effects of COVID-19,” said LAFD Chief Ralph Terrazas. “We strongly encourage the public to heed the social distancing recommendations and the directive to restrict public events to slow the spread of this virus.” The LAFD is monitoring the ongoing public health situation and will continue to make determinations about the status of future scheduled public events and non-essential Department activities.
