A greater alarm fire Monday afternoon ravaged a deluxe door and hardware business, causing millions of dollars in damage, and sending one firefighter to the hospital.
The was summoned at 1:50 PM on September 25, 2017 to in , where firefighters arrived quickly to find heavy fire throughout a light manufacturing and retail firm.
As many as ten employees that had been within the business when the fire erupted, were able to escape unharmed, as dozens of LAFD personnel deftly deployed large diameter hoselines and aerial ladder streams to defensively contain the fierce fire, in a building that was not equipped with an optional fire sprinkler system.
Within minutes, flames and smoke towered in the sky, as the fire burned through more than 70% of . Firefighters successfully prevented the intense flames from damaging an adjoining two-story business to the east, or spreading 60' to the south, where a larger building was filled with combustibles.
Ninety-seven ÃûæÂÖ±²¥fighters confined the fire to building of fire origin, fully extinguishing the flames in just 53 minutes.
Near the conclusion of the nearly hour-long firefight, one veteran firefighter sustained a painful though non-life threatening injury, when he was struck forcefully on the shoulder and back by a piece of collapsed dimensional lumber. Following on scene care by LAFD Paramedics, he was taken to a local hospital in good condition, where he was treated and released to remain temporarily off-duty.
No other injuries were reported.
Fire loss to "" is estimated at $4,000,000 ($3,000,000 structure & $1,000,000 contents). The cause of the blaze remains the focus of an active ÃûæÂÖ±²¥ investigation.
