Firefighters arrived on scene to find a palm tree well involved in flames in the front yard of a house. A total of 27 firefighters expertly worked to contain the blaze, ensuring the safety of all residents and their homes as they extinguished flames in less than 10 minutes.

The reminds everyone that all personal use fireworks are illegal in the city of Los Angeles.

In 1981, fireworks were responsible for more than 500 fires and more than $2.1 million in property damage. In the years since, the LAFD's joint Anti-Fireworks Campaign has assisted in significant reductions in fireworks-related incidents and losses throughout the City. In the past ten years, the number of fires caused by fireworks each year has rarely exceeded 50 and property damage has remained well below $50,000.

Please help us continue this progress and avoid near tragedies like today's incident as well as potentially painful injuries by not playing with fireworks. To honor Independence Day, please enjoy a public fireworks show.
