LAFD FEMA Task Force Responds to Hurricane Dorian
Forty-one specially certified and equipped members of the (LAFD) Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Urban Search & Rescue (US&R) Task Force, known as California Task Force 1 (CA-TF1), are being deployed tonight by aircraft to the southeast United States to assist with the nation's response to Tropical Cyclone - later Hurricane Dorian.
At the request of FEMA, California Governor Gavin Newsom, via the Governor's Office of Emergency Services, has approved this deployment of LAFD responders as then Tropical Cyclone Dorian approached the U.S. mainland.
Consisting of highly trained search and rescue specialists, CA-TF1 includes canines and medical personnel committed to the event as part of the National US&R Response System.
Specially configured for this deployment as a Type 3 Task Force, the highly mobile team, led by LAFD Assistant Chief Tim Ernst, is expected to arrive at their staging location early September 4.
Proud emissaries of the people of Los Angeles, they are eager to work alongside local responders in helping those facing challenge during and in the immediate aftermath of the storm.
