LAFD to Use UAS to Assist Brush Inspections During Covid-19

Friday, June 12, 2020

LOS ANGELES - This week's heat wave has brought with it brush fires, a reminder that LA's brush season is year-round. Even during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, brush fires remain a threat to both lives and property in the City of LA. There are more than 147,000 parcels in the City's Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ) requiring annual brush clearance inspections. Recently, the Board of Fire Commissioners approved the use of LAFD Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) to assist our dedicated Brush Inspectors with the critical task of surveying residential parcels to ensure proper brush clearance. Join us for a look at this new tool in the crucial work to keep Angelenos safe from wildfire.
