TUJUNGA-
An apartment fire in a foothill neighborhood Saturday night, took the life of one man and sent a woman to the hospital.

The was summoned at 10:55 PM on April 1, 2017 to in , where firefighters arrived quickly to find fire showing from the first floor of a . 
 
Thirty-four firefighters under the command of Battalion Chief Andrew Wordin swiftly confined the fire to three rooms in the one downstairs apartment, extinguishing flames in just 16 minutes.
 
During their search of the burning premises, firefighters discovered a lifeless man in a kitchen area. Beyond medical help, he was determined to be dead at the scene. A woman from the apartment was subsequently found outside suffering from smoke inhalation and minor burns. She was provided medical treatment at the scene before being taken by LAFD ambulance to an area hospital.  
 
Though remnants of a were noted in the burnt apartment, its functional status at the time of the blaze could not be immediately determined. There were no window bars, security doors or other obvious factors to impair an occupant's egress. The 54 year-old building was not equipped with optional . 
 
A positive identification of the dead man, as well as the cause, time and manner of his death will be determined by the Los Angeles County . 
 
Monetary loss from the fire is still being tabulated. The cause of the deadly fire remains under active investigation.
