Man Found Dead at Leimert Park Building Fire
Firefighters quickly extinguished fire inside a commercial building Tuesday morning in South Los Angeles, discovering a man dead within the structure.
The was notified by the 9-1-1 call of a passerby at 7:35 AM on February 9, 2021 to respond to in , where firefighters arrived quickly to find smoke showing from the roof of a 50' x 200' one-story commercial building subdivided into professional offices.

Forcing entry into the rear portion of the structure, firefighters encountered heavy smoke from an interior contents fire that the 37 LAFD responders were able to extinguish in just 11 minutes.
During their prompt secondary search of the premises, firefighters discovered the lifeless body of a man in a mezzanine area. Carried swiftly outside by firefighters, he proved beyond medical help, and was determined dead at the scene.
No other injuries were reported.
The mezzanine area where the dead man was discovered, appears to have been a makeshift dwelling conversion, with no required life safety systems such as immediately noted.
A positive identification of the dead man, to include the cause, time and manner of his death, will be determined by the Los Angeles County .
Monetary loss from the fire was limited to $6,000 ($1,000 structure and $5,000 contents). The cause of the blaze remains under active investigation.
