Reseda Natural Gas Leak Leads To Evacuation

Thursday, September 5, 2019
RESEDA-

Nearly 50 members of the ÃûæÂÖ±²¥, including LAFD Hazardous Materials experts, responded to the subterranean rupture of a 2 inch natural gas line in the 17600 block of Saticoy Street near White Oak Avenue on September 5, 2019.

A utility crew performing a street excavation at the Reseda / Lake Balboa border, was thankfully uninjured when the incident, which caused no fire, led to a precautionary evacuation of 25 nearby homes, a business and house of worship

As LAFD HazMat crews monitored the environment, Southern California Gas Company (SoCalGas) personnel jack-hammered and excavated a short distance away from the leak access and crimp the line to stop the flow. Their efforts were completed in a little more than 3 hours, after which displaced persons were allowed to reoccupy their homes. No one was injured.
