Teen Dies in Hyde Park Structure Fire

A teenager died and a young adult was injured in a Tuesday morning blaze that authorities have described as an intentional act. 
 
The was summoned at 8:47 AM on June 27, 2017 to in , where firefighters arrived quickly to find a detached one-story garage at the rear of a residential property well involved with fire.
 
The first arriving 30 firefighters under the command of Battalion Chief Scott Anderson, confined flames to the structure, extinguishing the smokey inferno in just thirteen minutes. 
 
As the blaze was extinguished, LAFD responders discoverd a lifeless 17 year-old male inside the small building. Beyond medical help, he was determined to be dead at the scene.  
 
A 22 year-old man found outside the dwelling sustained minor smoke inhalation, and was taken to an area hospital by LAFD Paramedics. No other injuries were reported.  
 
Due to fire damage, the presence of and their functional status at the time of the blaze could not be immediately determined. The building was not equipped with . 
 
A positive identification of the dead teenager, as well as the cause, time and manner of his death will be determined by the Los Angeles County . 
 
Volunteers from the  were asked to assist those displaced by flames, while Inspectors from the City's were notified of the deadly blaze. Monetary loss from the fire is still being tabulated. 
 
At a press briefing Tuesday afternoon, law enforcement officials declared the fire to be an intentional act, stating that an adult female suspect was in custody. The active investigation, supported by LAFD Arson Investigators, is ongoing.
