Training Gets Underway for LAFD Crew 4

Monday, May 19, 2025

LOS ANGELES - On Monday, May 19, 2025, the Los Angeles City Fire Department welcomed "Crew 4” -- 26 new recruits who will become LAFD’s first full-time paid Wildland Hand Crew Technicians.

Crew 4's training academy will include education on wildland fire behavior, weather, chainsaw operations, and line cutting; the recruits will also engage in team building and complete numerous certifications over the next five weeks.

Supervised by two foremen and a superintendent, and operating within LAFD’s Disaster Response Section, Crew 4 will respond to wildfires within and around the city of Los Angeles. When not fighting wildfires, they will be heavily involved in vegetation clearance and management, as well as training to augment LAFD’s response to all-hazard incidents such as debris flows and technical rescues.

We welcome the men and women of Crew 4 and wish them every success as they begin their fire service careers!
